MAIN PURPOSE OF JOB:

To manage the company's accounts using Sage Line 50 under the direction and supervision of the PA/Office Manager. To handle the day to day accounts, monthly bank reconciliations, production of quarterly management accounts and preparation for year-end auditing.

To work within the administration team using Excel and Sage Line 50 to ensure all incoming cheques are properly documented and promptly banked. To work with the Manager and Administrative Assistant to ensure all veterinary invoices are checked, authorised and settled immediately by way of cheque.

AAT qualified with 3 to 5 years experience in a similar role is essential together with a good knowledge and working experience of Sage Line 50.

A good telephone manner is essential to deal with all queries relating to accounts, together with excellent literacy skills, coupled with the ability to work to deadlines and prioritise own workload.

This role requires an individual with the ability to handle confidential information.



MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

i. To manage the purchase ledger – manage the inputting of invoices to various cost centres and nominal codes.

ii. To maintain the manual filing of all invoices to ensure retrieval when necessary.

iii. To handle the exporting of data from excel to Sage Line 50 by way of journals on a batching system.

iv. To manage supplier payments utilising the computerised cheque system on a day-to-day basis and manual cheques on an ad-hoc basis.

v. On a monthly basis to carry out bank reconciliations and monitor the bank balances.

vi. To manage the standing orders, cheques and reconciliation on a monthly basis, identifying and allocating to appropriate nominal accounts.

vii. To make adjustments where advised and necessary to the Nominal Ledger.

viii. To work with the PA/Office Manager to ensure all legacy income is correctly identified and allocated.

ix. To work with the PA/Office Manager to prepare accounts for year-end auditing and be involved in the audit process.

x. To work with the PA/Office Manager to double check that all incoming cheques are properly recorded and then sort for banking purposes.

xi. To assist with post, data entry and cover for reception on an ad-hoc basis.

xii. To liaise with all other staff of the company in a flexible manner.

• Case controller on a portfolio of clients (predominantly self-employed individuals) in respect of their tax affairs
• Provision of a high quality service to clients at a fee which maximises partnership income but provides value to the client

Main Duties

• Liaising with accounting staff on all matters affecting own portfolio of clients
• Preparation of tax returns for clients by processing through the firm’s computer system and preparing tax liability calculations
• Advising clients of taxation payable under Self Assessment
• Advising clients of appropriate elections and ensuring clients’ affairs are dealt with within the relevant time limits or deadlines
• Logging and checking tax assessments relating to own portfolio of clients. Dealing with appeals and advising clients of tax payable with dates
• Corresponding with clients, HMRC and others on all matters relating to own portfolio of clients
• Processing tax computations where not dealt with by the accounting staff
• Identifying financial planning opportunities in respect of own portfolio of clients

• Keeping clients advised of all relevant planning opportunities and technical developments
• Assisting the small & medium business department with general accounts preparation work and VAT returns
• Any other duties that may be required from time to time.
